Post-Doctoral Researcher

6 Months, Fixed Term Full-Time Post Position Summary We are seeking to recruit a Post Doctoral Researcher to work on the HyFloat1 Project. The HyFloat1 Project is developing a novel floating offshore wind foundation system coupled with hydrogen production and storage. The project is funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. The potential energy that can be generated from deep water floating offshore wind (FOW) in many countries including Ireland is very large but cannot be fully absorbed by the domestic electricity markets alone. Hydrogen storage systems that are directly coupled to FOW will reduce costs and increase revenues. Storing hydrogen locally at FOW turbines or farms is a promising technology. The HyFloat1 concept is based on a modified VolturnUS FOW platform (developed by the University of Maine) with added electrolyser, ancillary plant and hydrogen storage tanks. FOW foundations with hydrogen storage and subject to wind turbine and hydrodynamic loads will be analysed in terms of storage capacity and levelized cost of hydrogen. The appointee will be expected to: Develop detailed cost and energy yield models for floating offshore wind turbines with onboard storage of hydrogen and electrolysers and ancillary systems. Contribute to the development of concepts of hydrogen storage by using floating foundations and necessary improvements. Investigate logistics of offloading under variable wind and wave conditions. Contribute to the project communication and dissemination activities. Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI's. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEI Researcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association Project Title: HyFloat1 - Floating Offshore Wind-to-Hydrogen Production and Storage Concept. Post Duration: 6 Months, Full-Time Post Salary: €46,306 - €52,863 per annum (IUA PD1 Salary Scale) For an information package including further details of the post see Informal enquiries can be made in confidence to Dr. Paul Leahy, School of Engineering and Architecture, Tel: + ; Email: please reference "HyFloat1 postdoc" in the subject line. Applications must be submitted online via the University College Cork vacancy portal Queries relating to the online application process should be referred to quoting the job-title and project name. Candidates should apply, in confidence, before 12 noon (Irish Local Time) on Friday 21st of November 2025. Interviews will be held online the week after the closing date for application No late applications will be accepted.
