Laboratory Manager – Microbiology

Location: Cashel, Co. Tipperary

Onsite: 5 days per week

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager – Microbiology to lead its microbiology team at a state-of-the-art facility in Cashel, Co. Tipperary.

This is a senior leadership role reporting to the Senior Quality Director / Qualified Person, offering the chance to shape laboratory operations, drive compliance excellence, and contribute to strategic site growth.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing microbiology team.
- Oversee microbiology testing processes, lab design, and setup activities.
- Manage method and specification-related change controls.
- Lead microbiological investigations and technical transfers.
- Oversee and coordinate contract laboratory testing.
- Liaise with regulatory departments and external authorities on microbiology compliance.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless quality operations.
- Support strategic site expansion and development of next-generation laboratory capabilities.
- Identify and implement process improvements across efficiency, resources, and budget.
- Establish and track KPIs for continuous quality performance.

Requirements

- BSc or MSc in Microbiology (essential).
- 10+ years’ experience in a microbiology laboratory environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity (Supervisor/Manager level).
- Proven experience in a regulated pharmaceutical or biopharma setting.
- Strong understanding of GMP, quality systems, and regulatory standards.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop teams.
- Skilled in internal auditing, process optimisation, and strategic planning.
- Must be eligible to work in Ireland.
