Overview Volunteer: Board Opportunities - Financial Management, Governance and Risk, and Communications, Marketing and Commercial — Marathon Events Management DAC. The Board oversees the running of the Organisation behind the Irish Life Dublin Marathon, the Dublin Race Series, and the Dublin City Half Marathon. The Board seeks individuals with diverse experience to support governance, financial management, risk, and communications/marketing and commercial activity.
Responsibilities Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with a diverse team to shape the Organisation's strategic direction; ensure decisions are based on sound information and evaluation.
Governance: Implement high governance standards; provide guidance and oversight ensuring compliance with regulations and policies; formulate and ensure adherence to policies.
Advocacy: Promote the Organisation/'s mission and raise awareness with the community, partners, and stakeholders.
Behaviours and Values: Act in the best interest of the Organisation; exercise reasonable care and skill.
Board Committees: Each Board member joins at least one Committee; Committee meetings are typically online and held quarterly. The Board meets approximately every 7 weeks in Dublin, in the evening.
General Duties: Oversee the Organisation/'s affairs and ensure effective governance and financial stewardship.
Commitment: Non-paid roles with out-of-pocket expenses paid in line with the Organisation’s policy.
Qualifications / Experience Financial Management: Leadership and financial control experience in a medium to large Not-for-Profit/Charity or corporate sector; ability to read and analyse financial reports and contribute to financial decisions at a senior level; experience in developing operating budgets and financial sustainability plans; ensuring sound financial management and adherence to financial policies; accountant qualification is a minimum requirement.
Governance and Risk: Experience in governance and risk at senior level; familiarity with governance codes, legislation, and best practices; ability to advise on corporate governance developments; experience in either Not-for-Profit/Charity or Corporate sectors is a minimum requirement.
Communications, Marketing and Commercial: Ability to input into marketing plans and communications; experience in securing sponsorship and commercial partnerships; understanding of branding and funding sources; experience in marketing or commercial/communication activities is a minimum requirement; experience evaluating sponsorship and funding is advantageous.
Remuneration and Term Board member roles are non-paid; out-of-pocket expenses are paid in line with the Organisation/'s policy. Meetings: Board approximately every 7 weeks (in-person in Dublin, evenings); each member expected to join at least one Board Committee (typically online, quarterly).
