Excel Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of The Heritage Council, Kilkenny, for a Built Heritage Officer (Higher Executive) The Role Reporting to the Head of Conservation, the Built Heritage Officer will have key responsibilities for the project management and development of The Heritage Council's Irish Walled Towns Network, the Adopt a Monument programme and the development of the European Heritage Label in Ireland. The Irish Walled Towns Network (IWTN) has a membership of 33 member towns, located across 17 local authority areas including Northern Ireland. The IWTN's activities are coordinated by a steering committee, made up of representatives from: its member towns; the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage; the Northern Ireland Historic Environment Division, Department for Communities; Failte Ireland and The Heritage Council. Guidance and assistance are provided to member towns by The Heritage Council in the following ways: providing grants for town wall conservation, community festivals and heritage interpretation; by training community groups on how best to use their town's heritage for the benefit of those who live there; and by coordinating research and publishing user friendly advisory material. The Adopt a Monument scheme helps community groups embrace their heritage site, be it a prehistoric tomb, stone circle, medieval town wall, castle, church, bridge, graveyard, landed estate, mine, kiln, mill, traditional house or battlefield. The scheme offers opportunities to become actively involved in the conservation and interpretation of heritage sites in a local area and encourages community groups to collaborate and work together on heritage projects The successful applicant will also manage Ireland's participation in the European Heritage Label. This is a unique label awarded by the European Commission every 2 years to recognize the outstanding value of heritage sites in Europe. With over sixty-seven sites across Europe, to date Ireland has not participated significantly in this initiative.
