Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Post Doctoral Research Fellow Level I or Level II within UCD School of Biomolecular & Biomedical Science. The bioeconomy encompasses the production of renewable biological resources and the conversion of these resources and waste streams into value added products, such as food, feed, biobased products and bioenergy. The SFI funded Bioeconomy research centre (BiOrbic) performs world leading frontier research in collaboration with industry to convert Ireland's natural resources on land and in the sea to a wide range of value added products for the development of a sustainable Irish bioeconomy. Biorbic's research programme aligns with the European Biobased Industries Joint undertaking (BBI-JU) strategic research and innovation agenda (SIRA). The research project will investigate the microbial production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). The research project will use bioprocessing (fermentation) and may employ synthetic biology tools to design the bioprocess for the biological production of PHAs. Optimisation of the fermentation and supply of PHA to research partners processing will be undertaken as part of the project. The project is a collaboration with researchers in Ireland and the USA. This is an advanced research focused role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. Salary Range: €46,305 to €52,863 per annum . Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 26/11/2025. The PD2 post is intended for researchers that have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
