About The School
The School of Risk & Actuarial Studies has an established international reputation for excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Actuarial Studies, risk management, data analytics, and superannuation and pensions. The school hosts one of the largest actuarial programmes globally and is globally #1 ranked in risk & insurance and actuarial science research.
Why Your Role Matters
We seek a Level B or Level C Lecturer to conduct scholarly research and professional activities, including publishing in strong relevant academic journals, teaching, and engaging with university, industry, government, and community roles. The role reports to the Head of School and has no direct reports. The position is based in Sydney, Australia. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance may be considered for the preferred candidate.
Responsibilities
As a Lecturer (Level B) you will:
Engage in individual and/or collaborative research consistent with disciplinary practice.
Create scholarly impact recognised by peers.
Conduct research under limited supervision or independently and design research projects.
Contribute to competitive funding applications and participate as co‑investigator or chief investigator.
Mentor and guide students and colleagues, including supervision of HDRs.
As a Senior Lecturer (Level C) you will:
Make independent contributions to research with significant impact and establish a nationally recognised track record.
Develop research groups and appropriate research methods.
Attract peer recognition and establish research networks at national level.
Obtain research income from competitive grants and research end‑users as a member or leader.
About you:
Level B:
A PhD in a related discipline (e.g. actuarial studies, economics, econometrics, risk and insurance, quantitative finance, machine learning or similar).
Capability to contribute to the schools core research and teaching strengths in actuarial analytics, risk management & insurance, retirement and pensions.
Proven commitment to staying up to date with discipline knowledge.
Demonstrated track record of high quality, high impact research.
Experience in teaching and learning design at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
Track record of significant involvement with profession and/or industry.
Desirable: post‑doctoral research experience, industry experience, or professional actuarial qualifications (e.g. Associateship of the Actuaries Institute).
Level C:
Experience in successfully recruiting and supervising high calibre students.
Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence.
Demonstrated ability to interact with profession and industry and attract funding.
Desirable: post‑doctoral research experience, industry experience, or professional actuarial qualifications (e.g. Fellowship of the Actuaries Institute).
