Details about the broader Clinical Educator programme at RCSI can be found here Objective: The principal objective of the post is to participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examinations of the undergraduate teaching programme. This post offers the successful candidate the opportunity to get involved in research, the development of medical education curricula and the opportunity to develop particular clinical interests. Participate in clinical courses such as ACLS, IBU and PALS and be refunded up to €450 on successful completion; (Full list of approved courses available from HR) Refunds available up to €450 on passing approved examinations; Benefit from up to 14 days Educational Leave to support participation on approved courses, exams or professional development activities Clinical Educators are eligible for the RCSI Staff Development Programme which provides funding for Masters Level programmes - MD / MCh / MSc. (subject to some terms and conditions further information available from HR) Contract: This appointment is available for a period of one year initially, renewable to a maximum of two further years subject to satisfactory performance. Salary: €45,000 per annum for Clinical Tutor or €55,000 per annum for Clinical. Level of appointment will depend on the successful candidates' previous experience. Annually RCSI Paediatrics and Neonates recruit staff for the following Clinical Educator posts: 2 part time Neonates lecturers are assigned to the Rotunda Hospital; 2 full time Paediatric lecturers are assigned to Children's University Hospital, Temple St; 2 full time Paediatric lecturers are assigned to Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin; 1 part time Neonates lecturer is assigned to the Coombe; 1 part time lecturer covering Paediatrics and Neonates to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Contributing to the clinical teaching programme in the senior cycle programmes Contributing to the assessment of students in senior cycles programmes. This includes development, delivery and evaluation of course content Liaising with heads of department, project leaders for clinical competence and other relevant faculty members in planning, delivering and evaluating teaching programmes Providing resources and communication with student groups via the RCSI virtual learning environment Delivering the curriculum at a number of sites e.g. assigned hospitals, RCSI Campus Assist in drafting exam questions under the direct supervision of the Head of the department and Professors. Coordinating exam standard setting Assist in the creation of multimedia teaching content e.g. Videos; podcasts etc. Grading and recording of student coursework e.g. logbook and online quizzes Assisting with student exams Other responsibilities include: Conducting Research; Outcomes to be defined with relevant head of department Travelling to international sites including RCSI Bahrain or Perdana University for a short period of time (this travel is not mandatory, the successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to volunteer for these opportunities) Liaising with and/and visiting peripheral hospitals from time to time at the instruction of the Head of Department Attending RCSI professional development workshops and mandatory training sessions (if needed) Ensuring that all Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety Representing the best interests of the Department/RCSI at all times Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time Candidate Specification: Essential The successful candidate should: Possess evidence of registration with the Irish Medical Council Possess a keen interest in lecturing and interacting with undergraduate students Possess excellent communication skills Desirable It would be advantageous if the successful candidate had: Previous experience using E-learning/VLE systems Previous experience of teaching and assessing students in an academic environment Previous experience in research Completed at least 4 years of clinical experience post-internship MRCPI / MRCSI or equivalent Application Process Please submit your CV and covering letter no later than 7th December 2025 Informal enquiries can be made to Interview Process Interviews will be held in Early December Additional Requirements Please note that successful candidates will be required to complete: Occupational Health Clearance Garda Vetting Police Clearance (if in residence outside of Ireland for periods of 6 months or more at any stage) Garda Vetting and Occ Health checks will be conducted by RCSI and partners but provision of Police Clearance certification from countries outside of Ireland will be the responsibility of the successful candidate.
