Position Description Telecommunications are transforming our lives in the way we live and work and are essential to the remote management of systems and assets. ESB Networks Telecoms group has 100 staff providing the critical operational telecom networks needed to deliver the communication systems required to control the distribution, transmission and generation systems. Networks Telecoms deliver this by operating and managing the largest private telecommunications network in Ireland and are among a leading group of European utilities building our own private mobile network for operations. These initiatives are a critical part of our move to Smart Networks and the digitisation of ESB. The WAN Program Delivery team are part of Networks Telecoms and are the service owner and the delivery function for a range of telecoms technologies including DWDM and PDH/SDH migrating to MPLS-TP fibre, Microwave Radio, SCADA UHF polling radio, Satellite based SCADA network, Operational IP and a future LTE network. Key Responsibilities Commissioning and support of telecommunications infrastructure and services. Diagnostics, trouble shooting and problem solving of system faults and failures Maintaining a strong safety, quality, and performance culture Promote innovation and knowledge sharing within the team Attendance on site for fault and project-based activities Assist with preparation of technical specifications, supplier tenders and work on tender evaluations. Assist with preparation of solution designs for telecommunications systems and infrastructure for subsequent deployment. Assist with preparation of project documentation, including capital approvals, customer proposals and solution designs. Preparation of health and safety documentation relevant to your work area. Management and co-ordination of various telecommunications contractors. Recording of "as built" records for deployed services and systems. Ensuring professional, timely and productive communication with all stakeholders (EirGrid, PMO, other Network and Service Deployment Teams, management, internal service providers, vendors, 3rd party suppliers) for all faults, project works and technical queries Experience and Qualifications Essential At least 5 years relevant experience Third level qualification or equivalent work experience Extensive experiencewith point-to-point and point-to-multipoint microwave links, including frequency planning, link budgeting, and path profiling. Hands-on knowledgeof microwave equipment from vendors such as Ceragon, Aviat, or similar. Proficiency in troubleshootinglow Rx levels, performing repanning, and optimizing antenna alignment and line-of-sight conditions. Familiarity with WAN backhaul architecture, including integration of microwave links into IP/MPLS networks. Experience with tower infrastructure, including rigging coordination, safety standards, and site commissioning. Understanding of RF propagation principles, interference mitigation, and spectrum management. Ability to lead field teams, coordinate with riggers and TSD, and manage link migrations and upgrades (e.g., tower transitions). Working knowledge of satellite communicationsas a complementary or backup transmission method. Familiarity with Telecommunications technologies such as Optical Multiplexers, TCP/IP, PDH/SDH, DWDM and network synchronization Knowledge of Network Synchronization for design Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in troubleshootinglow Rx levels, faults, performing repanning, and optimizing antenna alignment and line-of-sight conditions. Full driving license as travel to site will be a feature of this role Demonstrate a strong focus on safety in the workplace in compliance with Health & Safety rules, particularly as work may involve hazardous environments such as High Voltage substations Self-motivated and capable of working on their own initiative.
