Software Development Engineer, Frontier Networking Core Services

DESCRIPTION

The AWS Networking organization is hiring, and we're looking for a great Software Development Engineer (SDE) to join our Frontier Networking Team. Our team is a hybrid team with Network, Software and System Development Engineers working in tandem to build the right solutions to support Frontier Networking products. If you have an interest in building large-scale, high-performance, customer-centric products and think end-to-end, this may be the job you've been looking for. You'll work closely with other stakeholder teams making up the larger Frontier Networking development group. This is an opportunity to join an established team where you can heavily influence the strategic and day to day decisions that shape how the team and our products evolve.

Software Development Engineers in this team focus on developing scalable and operable software that allows us to automatically deploy, configure, observe and operate the Frontier networking Products including AWS Outposts. You'll create professional quality software by applying software engineering best practices, while being exposed to cutting edge technologies.
Our engineers require a strong coding skillset and a detailed knowledge of software development best practice. Depth in one or more of the following would be advantageous: distributed high volume transactional systems, API and Service Management, Device and Service Instrumentation, Systems engineering, Linux operating systems, security and/or networking.
Candidates should have experience working on and driving large projects with ambitious timelines and ideally using agile methodologies to manage their delivery. We expect engineers to work closely with peer and dependency teams within Networking and the larger Frontier Networking community, to deliver the right solutions for our customers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact efficiently with peers and customers is required. The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is essential.

Key job responsibilities

1. Design and develop features and functions to support requests from stakeholders across Frontier Networking and associated teams
2. Support and solve issues with core Service APIs supporting Frontier Networking Software
3. Work with highly resilient, large scale distributed services that help manage and monitor Frontier Networking devices
4. Automate and support automation of key processes and effort to remove manual effort from support services and maintaining fleets
5. Introduce and experiment with new development and technology choices to enhance efficiency and solve problems - not limited to any one technology approach
6. Use an Agile approach to develop, release and maintain software according to Amazon's best practices and builder practices
7. Work in a flexible, fast-paced, collaborative team environment where getting problems solved and giving customers the best experience is vital

About the team
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
2. Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
3. Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
2. Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
