Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher Department: School of Population Health Reporting to: Noreen O'Leary, Hannah Christie, Angela Flynn Location: Beaux Lane House Contract/Duration: Up to 12 months (0,8 FTE) Remuneration: IUA Post-doctoral Researcher Level 1 pt 1 Closing Date: Friday, 21st February 2025 RCSI is a community of academic, research, clinical and professional staff working collaboratively to lead the world to better health. Here, you will thrive in an innovative and inclusive atmosphere and your personal development and wellbeing will be supported. We invite you to join us to help deliver on our exciting mission "To educate, nurture and discover for the benefit of human health". RCSI is also committed to provide its researchers with the supports and developmental opportunities to enable them to continuously grow and support their overall career development. Summary of Post The postdoctoral researcher will join a collaborative, cross-institutional project aimed at advancing gender equality within Irish Higher Education Institutions. The project, titled "Implementing Gender-Informed Workload Allocation Models to Support Women in Academia," seeks to develop a national framework for equitable workload allocation. This work will address gender disparities in career progression by integrating insights from policy reviews, participatory methodologies, and knowledge translation workshops. This project is timely and outcomes will be highly impactful, addressing the 'leaky pipeline' phenomenon where women leave academic roles at higher rates than men, despite their strong representation at entry-level positions. Women in academia are often disproportionately burdened with time-intensive but undervalued responsibilities, such as administrative tasks and pastoral care, leaving less opportunity for research and career advancement. By incorporating evidence-based insights, participatory research methods, and innovative knowledge translation strategies, this research aims to foster systemic change across HEIs in Ireland, enhancing career progression opportunities for women and supporting broader equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) goals. As part of the interdisciplinary Cameron team, the postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with leading academics and professionals from partner institutions, contributing to transformative solutions that will have a lasting impact on the academic landscape in Ireland and beyond. Specifically, the duties of the post are: Conduct a rapid review of existing workload allocation models (WAMs) in Irish Higher Education Institutions, focusing on gender-informed frameworks. Coordinate and operationalise project activities such as preparing and disseminating recruitment materials. Facilitate participatory research methods, including World Café sessions, to collect data on women's experiences with WAMs. Develop visual representations and narrative summaries from the data collected. Collaborate with partner institutions to design and execute knowledge translation workshops. Draft manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and contribute to the dissemination of findings through conferences and public events. Assist in developing a gender-informed WAM implementation framework, incorporating stakeholder feedback. Liaise with project stakeholders, including EDI offices, to ensure timely progress and alignment with strategic goals. Manage project-related communication, including maintaining an active project webpage. Support the ethical governance of the research and maintain accurate project documentation. Qualifications - (Essential): A PhD in a relevant field, such as (but not exclusive to) social sciences, gender studies, public policy, or higher education research. First degree in a relevant field, such as (but not exclusive to) social sciences, gender studies, public policy, or higher education research. Knowledge & Experience - (Essential): Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to present complex information clearly. Demonstrated experience with qualitative research methods, including participatory methodologies. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary and multi-institutional teams. Knowledge & Experience - (Desirable): Strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Proficiency in participatory methodologies. Competence in creating knowledge translation outputs, such as visual representations or infographics.
