Amazon CloudWatch gives customers actionable visibility into the health of their applications and services. Today we run one of the largest time-series data stores on the planet and teams in CloudWatch solve problems of massive metric ingestion, distributed systems/cloud computing, data visualization, log processing and analytics, anomaly detection, and predictive analytics. Our services are the “eyes and ears” for customers everywhere, both inside Amazon along with AWS customers across the world.
We are looking for software development engineers that are passionate about creating application software that underpins the robust CloudWatch system. On any given day, we use ReactJS, Python, Java, GoLang, SQL, Lambda, DynamoDB, and CloudFormation, as well as other public AWS services and a host of Amazon-internal tools. We don’t expect you to be an expert in, or necessarily even be familiar with, all of the technologies listed above, but we do expect you to be excited to learn about them
Our team is dedicated to supporting new team members. We are partnered with a team of mostly mid-level engineers who enjoy helping new engineers grow through one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews.
We take code reviews seriously. We believe that good code reviews raise our code quality, grow our technical acumen, and provide opportunities to support and share knowledge with each other.

Key job responsibilities:
1. Principal Engineers provide technical leadership at AWS. They help establish technical standards and drive our overall technical architecture, engineering practices, and engineering methodologies.
2. They work on our hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs.
3. You deliver working software systems consisting of multiple features spanning the full software lifecycle including technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance strategy.
4. You work with stakeholders to create or evolve processes for the team to propose UX, provide feedback, recommend improvements, and give voice to engineering considerations.
5. You review others’ work to ensure it fits into the bigger picture and is well designed, extensible, accessible, performant, and secure.
6. You ensure your team has good operational practices and grows by training, recruiting, assessing, and providing career guidance to members of their team.
A day in the life:
Working closely with your agile development team and cross functional partners to deliver impactful products to customers. Working with leadership and stakeholders across the organization to align projects and deliverables. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience (non-internship) in professional software development.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience designing and building large-scale systems in a multi-tiered, distributed environment (Service Oriented Architecture).
