Objective of the Post: We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our brain tumour research group in the Department of Physiology & Medical Physics. The most common and aggressive primary brain tumour is glioblastoma (GBM). Despite intense effort to combat GBM with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, 90-95% of patients succumb to the disease within 5 years of diagnosis and nearly all patients experience disease recurrence, usually within 6-8 months of treatment onset. It is now essential that new, better, more-targeted treatments are properly assessed in robust brain tumour models. Our Research Ireland-funded project GLIOTRAT, aims to assess the clinical applicability of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (CKIs) as a novel treatment option for GBM patients. By combining, 3D cultures, cancer stem cell populations, large scale high-content screening, and advanced imaging techniques this integrative translational project, will comprehensively examine the therapeutic potential of CDK inhibitors as a treatment strategy for GBM patients. Specifically the duties of the post will include Lead the radiation biology work-stream within our GLIOTREAT project to Develop and optimize radiation protocols Design and execute combination treatment studies involving radiation, in 3D gliomasphere cultures Implement high-content imaging workflows for cell death and mechanistic analyses post-radiation. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and present findings in high-impact forums Qualifications A PhD (or equivalent) in cancer biology, molecular biology or a closely related field. Strong publication record and ability to work independently in a collaborative environment Knowledge & Experience - (Essential) Proven experience in radiation delivery systems and safety compliance. Strong background in cell culture (preferably 3D models) and mechanistic assays. Proficiency in imaging and data analysis tools (e.g., CellProfiler, ImageJ) Knowledge & Experience (Desirable) Knowledge of cancer biology and therapeutic resistance mechanisms. Experience with oxygen-controlled culture systems and high-content screening platforms We are all too aware that imposter syndrome and the confidence gap can sometimes stop fantastic candidates putting themselves forward, so please do submit an application - we'd love to hear from you.
