Network Development Engineer

DESCRIPTION
Come join a creative team of Operations Technology Engineers that builds the wired and wireless networks that power Amazon fulfillment centers and transportation sites worldwide. These networks are used by hundreds of thousands of associates, relied upon by operators of industry-leading fulfillment and transportation systems, and play a critical role in the delivery of shipments to Amazon retail customers.
We are looking for Network Development Engineers to provide technical thought leadership in the design of our next-generation networks. As we look to the future, our networks will support an ecosystem of robotics, industrial IoT, sensors, drones, and mobile devices.
Are you experienced in automation via Bash/Shell scripting and Perl/Python programming? Are you comfortable with making data motivated decisions, and iterating on designs that may fail at the outset to ultimately deliver robust systems that elegantly scale? If the answer is yes and Information Security and Network Reliability are at the core of your thought processes, this position is for you.
In this role you will also operate the largest fulfillment network in the world, and provide guidance and mentoring to network support teams to develop their skills and reinforce best practices. Network reliability is critical to Amazon Operations, and your responsibilities will include driving root cause resolution of network events most impactful to the business.
This is an office-based position in lovely Dublin and Amazon sponsors visa and relocation upon accepting the offer. The Team operates a follow-the-sun on-call rotation, with a frequency of one week on call in every five weeks. The rotation is daytime only during working hours Monday to Sunday, with handoffs between the India, Dublin, and North America (NA) teams. The on-call engineer represents the Network Reliability team during events with customer impact in production and coordinates efforts to quickly mitigate customer impact across these regions.

A day in the life
In this role, you will operate the largest fulfillment network in the world, and provide guidance and mentoring to network support teams to develop their skills and reinforce best practices. About the team
The OTIE LAN Ops & Reliability Team has broad scope supporting multiple business units globally, from the smallest delivery stations in emerging markets, to the most advanced automated fulfillment centers in North America, Japan, and Europe. As a result, this group enjoys variety in both short term innovation and long-term strategic projects. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related area
2. Experience in automation via Bash/Shell scripting and Perl/Python programming
3. Experience in design, implementation, and documentation methodology
4. Experience in designing and operating large-scale, production networks
5. Experience with major routing protocols, specifically OSPF
6. Experience with routing and switching hardware from major vendors including Juniper and Cisco
7. Ability to work on a diverse team with a diverse range of coworkers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master's degree in Computer Science or related area
2. Development and delivery of large scale designs in data center networks
3. Experience with IPv6 Design and implementations
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
5. Proficiency in wide area networking (including SDWAN), wireless networking, and industrial Ethernet
6. Expertise in information security for industrial control systems
