International Payroll & Compliance Lead

Work Schedule: Remote or Hybrid (open to both options)

Location: Gort, Co. Glaway

Role: Full Time Permanent

Position Overview: The International Payroll and Compliance Lead oversees payroll processes and production and ensures compliance with local regulations across multiple countries. This role will involve auditing third‑party payroll providers, confirming employee benefits, and ensuring accurate taxation practices tailored to each jurisdiction. The Payroll and Compliance Lead will have a strong understanding of international payroll requirements, practices and customs as well as compliance requirements. As the liaison to Employer of Record partners, this role will require excellent relationship management skills and will report into our Senior Manager for Global Payroll.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Management:

- Oversee payroll processes for international employees, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of payroll across all regions.

- Monitor payroll timelines, implement controls and checks to minimize errors and resolve any discrepancies or issues including those which arise with third‑party providers.

- Ensure proper documentation and approvals are in place for all payroll changes. Review and validate payroll data, benefits information, and taxation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

- Enroll employees in benefits appropriate for each jurisdiction.

- Manage relationships with Employer of Record (EOR) provider to ensure compliance and effective payroll processes.

- Manage the addition of new jurisdictions as business needs arise, ensuring compliance with local payroll practices including working with HR to understand the requirements, prior to researching and implementing the necessary processes.

- Conduct periodic reconciliations of payroll data with financial records.

Compliance Assurance, Auditing and Reporting:

- Ensure compliance with local labor laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements for all jurisdictions.

- Maintain proper document retention practices in accordance with the laws of each jurisdiction, ensuring that payroll records, tax documents, and employee information are stored securely and in compliance with local regulations.

- Protect sensitive employee information in accordance with international data requirements such as GDPR, ensuring that personal data is handled securely and responsibly.

- Conduct & maintain documentation of regular audits of third‑party payroll providers to ensure adherence to service level agreements and compliance standards, analyze audit findings and work with vendors to address any issues or areas for improvement.

- Provide accurate payroll data and insights to finance partners for actual versus budget analysis.

- Prepare reports for senior management on payroll trends and compliance metrics.

- Stay abreast of the changing global payroll and tax compliance landscape including proactively identifying potential impacts of regulatory changes on payroll processes and implement necessary adjustments to policies and procedures in response to evolving compliance requirements.

- Ensure robust and effective backup plans & accurate workflow documentation are in place for all responsibilities, facilitating continuity of operations. Crosstrain team members to ensure coverage withing the payroll team.

Personal and Team Development:

- Work closely with HR business partners to coordinate staffing initiatives and ensure smooth payroll integration for new hires. Act as a liaison between HR and payroll teams to address employee inquiries and issues.

- Participate in team meetings to share updates, challenges, and best practices.

- Foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the payroll team. Share insights and learning with the team to promote continuous improvement

- Attend training sessions, webinars, and industry conferences stay updated on global payroll and HR developments, demonstrating a willingness to learn new elements of the function.

Skills and Experience

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; payroll certification (e.g., CIPP, APA) preferred.

- Experience: 7+ years in payroll operations, including 3+ years managing international or multi-country payrolls.

- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of global payroll regulations, tax compliance, social security, and labor laws; proficient in Dayforce, ADP, SAP, or similar HR/payroll systems; advanced Excel skills.

- Compliance & Audit: Proven ability to ensure compliance with local laws and GDPR, conduct payroll audits, and maintain accurate records and controls.

- Vendor & EOR Management: Skilled in managing third‑party payroll providers and Employer of Record (EOR) relationships to ensure accuracy and service quality.

- Financial Acumen: Experienced in payroll reconciliation, reporting, and supporting finance with payroll data for analysis and budgeting.

- Leadership & Collaboration: Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; able to partner effectively with HR, Finance, and external vendors.

- Continuous Improvement: Proactive in identifying process efficiencies, staying current with global payroll and compliance changes, and driving best practices.
