This is a full-time, fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral researcher in the area of economics of climate adaptation and risk. The Centre for Economic Research on Inclusivity and Sustainability (CERIS) and the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics at the University of Galway invites applications for this role.

The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing an impact evaluation that is central to the project "Anticipatory Climate Adaptation for Communities in Africa" (ACACIA). They will work closely with Dr Thomas K.J. McDermott and external collaborators as part of the ACACIA project.

  • Conduct research (both independently and as part of a team) in the field of climate change economics.
  • Design and implement an impact evaluation using randomized controlled trials.
  • Participate in fieldwork in Madagascar.
  • Provide research support and guidance to the team involved in data gathering.
  • Carry out high-quality data analysis.

The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to writing scientific papers and reports for international journals and progress reporting to other researchers and project funders. They will also engage in collaboration with stakeholders and partners, including the Malagasy Red Cross.

Eligibility requirements include a PhD in Economics or Agricultural Economics, Political Science, or a related field. Advanced quantitative methodological knowledge and/or experience, particularly in causal inference, are also required. A thematic focus on development, ideally with experience working on climate adaptation and risk among vulnerable communities, is preferred.
