Postdoctoral Researcher in Climate Adaptation and Risk

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team in the area of climate adaptation and risk. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing an impact evaluation that is central to our recently funded project Anticipatory Climate Adaptation for Communities in Africa (ACACIA).

The position will be based in our research group and the Discipline of Economics at the University of Galway, where you will work closely with our team to conduct research on the economics of climate adaptation and risk.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research on the economics of climate adaptation and risk, specifically contributing to the design and implementation of an impact evaluation (in the form of a randomized controlled trial)
  • Contributing to the completion of a research ethics application and Data Protection Impact Assessment
  • Participating in fieldwork in Madagascar
  • Providing research support and guidance to the team involved in data gathering
  • Carrying out high-quality data analysis

Eligibility requirements include:

  • PhD in Economics or a related field
  • Advanced quantitative methodological knowledge and/or experience, particularly in causal inference
  • A thematic focus on development, ideally with experience working on climate adaptation and risk among vulnerable communities
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English
  • Field research experience or willingness to do field research
  • Experience with randomised control trials (RCTs) in the field
