Speech and Language Therapist in ENT or Care of the Older Person

This dynamic role involves managing and developing a comprehensive Speech & Language Therapy service to our ENT services. You will work closely with patients experiencing communication and swallowing difficulties, including those post laryngectomy.


Key Responsibilities:
  • To provide clinical assessment, rehabilitation, and effective management for both communication and swallowing disorders.
  • To collaborate closely with other SLTs assigned to this clinical area.
  • To maintain expertise in required clinical areas, including tracheostomy and laryngectomy management for the ENT role.
  • To contribute to a person-centred care environment by promoting accessible interactions, documents, and environments for patients with communication needs.
  • To ensure safe swallowing practices are maintained and implemented.
  • To collaborate with Senior SLTs to deliver a seamless and comprehensive service for cancer patients.
  • To maintain close liaison with relevant personnel regarding patient care and management.

Educational Responsibilities:
  • To mentor and supervise staff-grade SLTs and/or SLT Assistants as agreed with the SLT Manager.
  • To engage in supervision with the SLT manager or designated supervisor.
  • To provide general support to other SLTs in the department and other agencies within the designated area of specialism.
  • To undertake clinical supervision as a practice educator for SLT students in conjunction with other SLTs.

Administrative Responsibilities:
  • To maintain accurate patient records within HSE and departmental standards, and cooperate with data collection systems and current administrative procedures.
  • To attend staff and all relevant meetings.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of a well-structured, multi-specialty team with excellent support and opportunities for professional development. Training for specific clinical skills relating to these areas will be provided if required.
