Job Title: Occupational Therapy Assistant

This role is an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, you will work under the supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist to support the delivery of occupational therapy interventions.

The postholder will assist service users in developing, maintaining, or restoring independence and quality of life through engagement in meaningful activities, rehabilitation programmes, and community integration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Occupational Therapist in planning, delivering, and evaluating group and individual interventions for adults with mental health needs.
  • Develop daily living, self-care, vocational, leisure, and social skills in service users.
  • Facilitate therapeutic group sessions (e.g., art, cooking, social skills, relaxation, community outings) to promote recovery-oriented practices.
  • Encourage and motivate service users to participate in activities that promote independence and well-being.
  • Support service users in goal-setting and monitoring progress in line with care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential service user records in line with GDPR and organisational requirements.
Requirements:
  • QQI Level 5 qualification (or equivalent) in a health/social care discipline.
  • Experience working in a mental health, healthcare, or social care setting.
  • Knowledge of recovery-oriented practice and the role of occupational therapy in mental health.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and teamworking skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage service users in meaningful activities.
  • Basic IT and record-keeping skills.
