Job Title: Head of R&D

Head of R&D



Our client, a multinational company with operations in Ireland, is seeking someone to lead their R&D function. Reporting to the CTO, the successful candidate will have a background in developing TAVR devices.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify research opportunities and work with internal teams or third-party contractors to develop clinical product solutions.
  • Maintain and improve high standards of medical device engineering.
  • Take technical responsibility for all products and projects within assigned groups.
  • Implement and maintain high standards of design control.
  • Source new technologies, materials, components, and equipment as required to develop capabilities within designated areas.
  • Identify new vendors and strategic partners for product development and component/subassembly supply.
  • Engage with Key Opinion Leaders, physicians, and product managers to develop innovative medical devices that improve patient care.
  • Solve issues through information exchange, influence, and active persuasion without direct command to gain cooperation on program execution plans.
  • Lead, direct, and review the work of experienced professionals.
  • Manage, motivate, and develop team members including vendors to complete assigned major programs or projects.
  • Responsible for cost minimization, risk reduction, and objective completion.
  • Resolve issues and ensure task completion by establishing priorities and reaching compromise with team members and functional managers.
  • Promote problem-solving techniques within the team.
  • Establish program objectives, timelines, milestones, and budget.
  • Execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Ensure that programs are managed on schedule and within budget.
  • Foster technical innovation in staff members.
  • Develop harmonious working relations with other functions and provide employees within R&D with necessary information and resources to effectively perform their jobs.
  • Knowledge of the Galway med tech industry's ecosystem and ability to tap its potential.
