Job Overview:

Aquatic Resource Conservation Specialists play a vital role in safeguarding Ireland's inland and sea angling resources. In this pivotal position, you will be responsible for enforcing statutory provisions related to fisheries management and environmental protection.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Patrol lakes, rivers, sea, coast, and estuaries to detect and deter unauthorized fishing activities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of commercial Salmon & Sea Trout licence holders and recreational anglers to ensure compliance with regulations and bye-laws
  • Gather evidence, apprehend offenders, and provide expert testimony in court proceedings
  • Maintain boats, vehicles, and surveillance equipment to support efficient operations
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including fishery owners, clubs, and local authorities
  • Compile detailed reports and provide insightful analysis to inform policy decisions
  • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing public inquiries and concerns
  • Remain up-to-date with evolving legislation, scientific research, and best practices in the field

Necessary Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Leaving Certificate (Level 5 NFQ) or recognized equivalent
  • A valid full Category B driving licence
  • Extensive experience working on boats or in an environmental/conservation role
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • No convictions under Irish Fisheries Legislation
  • Fluent English language proficiency, both spoken and written
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office
  • Ability to reside within a reasonable distance of the assigned base location
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
