ATG is seeking a Woodland Ecologist to join our multidisciplinary environmental consultancy.

Role Overview

This role plays a key part in habitat and woodland surveys, ecological impact assessments, and biodiversity enhancement projects. You will work closely with internal teams and external clients to ensure compliance with legislation, planning policy, and best-practice conservation strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct habitat, vegetation, and woodland surveys (e.g. NVC/Fossitt, ancient woodland assessment, tree assessments)
  • Prepare ecological assessments and reports (e.g. EcIA, Natura Impact Statements, Biodiversity Management Plans)
  • Provide expert advice on woodland restoration, native woodland creation, and invasive species management
  • Contribute to environmental planning and EIA/AA processes for infrastructure, forestry, and development projects
  • Liaise with statutory bodies, NGOs, and local authorities
  • Assist with project management including scoping, costing, and client communication
  • Support junior staff and contribute to team development and training
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation, policy, and best practice
Key Requirements
  • Degree in Ecology, Forestry, Environmental Science, or related field (MSc desirable)
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant professional experience (more for senior roles)
  • Strong field skills in habitat/vegetation classification and woodland ecology
  • Experience with Irish or UK habitat classification systems (e.g. Fossitt, NVC)
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policy (e.g. Habitats Directive, Forestry Standards Manual)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel across Ireland
  • GIS skills and mapping experience an advantage
  • Membership of CIEEM or eligible for membership
