Senior Cost Manager Job Description

ChandlerKBS Ireland Ltd is seeking a Senior Cost Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in commercial management and project management activities.

Job Description:

The Senior Cost Manager will be responsible for the management of commercial matters relating to scheme delivery of major infrastructure projects across Ireland. They will assist the NEC4 Project Manager in establishing and leading the Commercial Cost Management within the Client Organisation, providing strategic direction and overseeing the management of a high-performing, integrated Commercial Management team.

  • Contribute towards bid and tender preparation and business development.
  • Assume day-to-day delivery responsibility for projects/programmes of work and demonstrate the ability to take on tasks without supervision.
  • Monitor project fees and ensure resource and time inputs are in line with approved budgets.
  • Evaluate tenders, contractor selection, and contract documentation.
  • Manage the delivery of work through proactive involvement where appropriate and through performance management of personnel to ensure work is completed in a timely manner to a high-quality standard.
  • Resolve conflicts of priorities and personalities relating to work with the appropriate Director or Associate.
  • Ensure service delivery is in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Practice, particularly Health and Safety and Quality Assurance.
  • Develop our business; networking and developing client relationships.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum 15+ years' commercial management experience with at least 5 years' experience carrying out project management activities across the project lifecycle through to completion in high-value road and/or infrastructure projects.
  • Ideal degree qualified: construction, cost management, engineering, quantity surveying or other RICS-accredited degree.
  • Strong core technical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with both client and staff.
  • Strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and aptitude for forward planning.
  • Excellent pre- and post-contract technical cost management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction industry technical matters with circa 5 years plus post-qualification experience.
