Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Ecological Consultant to join our team. As an Ecological Consultant, you will be responsible for managing small to medium scale projects and providing input on large scale projects such as transport infrastructure projects.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage projects from planning through to delivery, ensuring timely completion and budget adherence.
  • Be the primary point of contact for Ramboll project managers, clients, partner organisations, and sub-consultants.
  • Undertake ecological surveys and produce high-quality reports including habitat and species surveys.
  • Design and deliver ecological mitigation measures.
  • Liaise with ecological regulators and planning authorities.
  • Deliver technical work on complex projects.
  • Prepare fee proposals and assist with client relationship management.
  • Supervise and manage more junior ecologists and contribute to resource planning.

Additional Responsibilities at Principal Grade:

  • Effectively plan, manage, and mentor an ecology team within a multi-disciplinary consultancy environment.
  • Review reports including EIA chapters, HRA, precautionary methods of work, and species licence applications.
  • Deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Develop business opportunities and manage client relationships.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient user of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and ideally ArcGIS.
  • Familiar with digital data capture techniques in ecology fieldwork.
  • Experienced in fieldwork and application of survey techniques in accordance with best practice guidance.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, to engage with various audiences.
  • Able to produce clear and concise documents for diverse purposes.
  • Hold one or more protected species survey licences (ideally bats) and have experience in implementing development licences.
  • Good knowledge of relevant environmental/ecology legislation.
  • Understand the planning systems in Ireland and Northern Ireland related to development and ecology integration.
  • Possess a full clean driving licence and be willing to undertake unsociable hour surveys (e.g., bats, newts).
