**Job Title:** Senior Microbiologist **About the Role:

This role is part of a dynamic team working closely with other specialists to drive quality improvements in microbiological services.

 **Key Responsibilities:
  1. As a Senior Microbiologist, you will be responsible for surveillance data in Microbiology, Serology and Virology, ensuring accurate timely information required by stakeholders within the hospital and partner agencies.
  2. You will support the Chief Medical Scientist during periods of absence, taking charge of key tasks and responsibilities.
  3. Aiding laboratory developments to improve surveillance of antimicrobial resistance, extracting relevant data from systems and categorising it into appropriate categories.
  4. Collating and disseminating data on antimicrobial resistance and other relevant data to laboratory managers, hospital senior management and the infection control committee.
  5. Developing and maintaining databases facilitating surveillance of Staphylococcus aureus, C. difficile, vancomycin-resistant enterococci, and other organisms as appropriate.
  6. Contributing to early recognition and management of outbreaks of infection or unexpected infection-related events in the Hospital and associated community services.
  7. Participation in local and national initiatives such as surveillance of Healthcare associated infections.
  8. Assisting in notification of diseases to public health departments using CIDR and non-CIDR methodologies.
  9. Facilitating extraction of data to fulfil Freedom of Information requests and requests from patients and members of the public.
  10. Participation in laboratory, departmental, hospital and other committees where surveillance is a key component.
  11. Contributing to relevant education and learning initiatives in hospitals and the community.
  12. Participating in molecular research and development projects locally and nationally.
  13. Continuing professional development and education are also essential components of this role.
 **Requirements:
  • Excellent communication skills and awareness/sensitivity towards patient and users' needs.
  • Good IT skills and familiarity with Performance Planning and Development System (PPDS).
