Our organization is dedicated to the conservation of critically endangered sea turtles. In Costa Rica, we have a unique opportunity for you to join our team as a volunteer and contribute to this vital work.
Job DescriptionThe project is based in the north of the Caribbean province of Limn, where the international NGO has been working together with scientists, conservationists, and educators to promote sustainable sea turtle projects in the wider Caribbean region.
This community-based Conservation programme works closely with the local community of Pacuare, training former poachers in sea turtle conservation and collaborating with volunteers to protect these critically endangered animals.
As a volunteer, you will play an important part in Pacuare, generating income for the local inhabitants through your fees. The project strives to increase alternative livelihoods for coastal communities, reducing the need for poaching and hunting turtles and achieving long-lasting sustainable sea turtle management.
Required Skills and QualificationsIdeal candidates will have a strong background in environmental science, marine biology, zoology, ecology, or conservation. You should be passionate about protecting endangered species and willing to learn new skills in a challenging yet rewarding environment.
We are looking for individuals who can commit to at least 3 months (or 7 days as a volunteer) and participate in nightly and daily beach patrols, as well as operate a hatchery. Your experience will include hands-on conservation efforts, including research, plastic contamination solutions, and community projects.
