The role of a Fisheries Officer presents an exciting opportunity to safeguard, administer and conserve Ireland's freshwater fisheries and sea angling resources.
This entails providing comprehensive conservation, protection, improvement & development services in both inland and marine environments. The successful candidate will have two key areas of responsibility: Fisheries Protection and Fisheries Conservation and Development.
Main Responsibilities:- Fisheries Protection: Patrol lakes, rivers, coastlines, estuaries and marine waters to detect and prevent illegal fishing activities, protect bass and bluefin tuna fisheries, conduct environmental inspections and assist with enforcement operations.
- Fisheries Conservation and Development: Contribute to habitat improvement schemes, conduct research surveys, monitor scientific data, undertake electro-fishing and netting exercises, communicate effectively with stakeholders and provide assistance for angling festivals and competitions.
- Leaving Certificate (Level 5 NFQ) or recognised equivalent qualification
- A full Category B driving licence valid in Ireland
- No convictions under the Irish Fisheries Legislation
- Eligibility to work within the state
- Fluent English skills, encompassing both spoken and written communication
- Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office
- Residency close to base location (candidates must reside within a 60-minute drive of their assigned base)
- Competence in water-based activities, including both marine and freshwater environments
- Demonstrated passion for promoting, protecting and conserving natural resources
