Surgical Education Programme Director

About the Role: The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) is seeking a skilled Surgical Education Programme Director to lead the development, organisation, and delivery of our Continuous Professional Development in Surgical Skills, Surgical Science and Practice.
Key Responsibilities: As a key member of our Surgical Affairs department, you will undertake education needs analysis to identify gaps in the education and skills needs of Surgical NCHDs and the wider surgical workforce. You will also liaise with specialty representatives to identify education gaps for NCHDs and support the development and delivery of new specialty-specific courses.
- Help develop and support the adjunct faculty to ensure the quality of the courses and that the stated learning objectives are met.
- Facilitate delivery of teaching of Continuous Professional Development Programme in Surgical Science, Skills and Practice.
- Assist the operations team in planning and organising teaching days, ensuring smooth coordination of all aspects.
- Contribute to quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of existing courses.
- Support the recruitment and development of adjunct faculty for curriculum delivery.
- Demonstrate a collaborative spirit and be committed to fostering a positive, supportive team environment.
Person Specification Essential: To be successful in this role, you will need to have an active, informed and continued interest in the postgraduate education and career guidance of surgeons in training. You must also be a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Ireland, on the Specialist Register and in good standing with the Irish Medical Council, and hold a permanent public appointment as a Consultant Surgeon within the state.
- Practice in a hospital which is recognised for training.
- Experience in teaching particularly in a clinical or simulation setting.
- Enthusiasm for teaching and the ability to engage learners in technical skills.
- Strong organisational skills to manage the coordination of teaching days and events.
