Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Senior Occupational Therapist to join our team in the Rheumatology department.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced occupational therapist to work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care to patients with rheumatological conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain high standards of practice, supervising staff, prioritizing tasks, and promoting positive team morale.
  2. Develop and maintain specialist skills in rheumatology, providing expertise and guidance to colleagues.
  3. Provide clinical leadership, overseeing the day-to-day running of the service area, and collaborating with the Occupational Therapy Manager.
  4. Manage caseloads effectively, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating treatment intervention programs for patients.
  5. Participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, and care planning sessions as required.
  6. Collaborate with patients, team members, relatives, carers, and external agencies to ensure coordinated interventions.
  7. Liaise closely with MDT members to maximize patient outcomes and act as a key worker when required.
  8. Set goals in partnership with patients, family members, and team members as appropriate.
  9. Plan discharges or transitions between services as needed.
  10. Document assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports, and discharge summaries accurately and in line with professional standards.
  11. Communicate results, recommendations, and treatment plans to patients, teams, and relevant others as necessary.
  12. Foster and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, front-line managers, and other healthcare personnel.
  13. Promote good team working and diversity within the occupational therapy service.
Education and Training:

The successful candidate will participate in mandatory training programs, stay up-to-date with advances in occupational therapy, and engage in continuing professional development.

  • Participate in reflective practice, in-service training, conferences, self-directed learning, research, and audit projects.
  • Contribute to in-service training within the occupational therapy department and organization.
  • Network with clinicians, education providers, and professional groups to enhance knowledge and practice.
  • Engage in supervision, peer support, and performance achievement with Occupational Therapy Manager.
  • Support staff with induction, clinical supervision, and development reviews.
Health and Safety:

The Senior Occupational Therapist will promote a safe working environment, adhere to health and safety legislation, and implement risk management strategies.

  • Be aware of and implement policies, procedures, and safe practices related to equipment, aids, and appliances.
  • Document hazards, incidents, and near misses according to organizational guidelines.
  • Actively participate in risk management, identifying risks, and taking appropriate action.
  • Have a working knowledge of HIQA Standards and their application to the role.
Administrative:

The Senior Occupational Therapist will contribute to the planning and development of the occupational therapy service, coordinate delivery, review resources, and promote quality.

  • Review and evaluate the Occupational Therapy service regularly, identifying changing needs and opportunities to improve.
  • Develop and implement service/business plans, quality initiatives, audits, and report on outcomes.
  • Collect and evaluate data about the service user group, demonstrating achievement of objectives.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of procedures, policies, and guidelines.
  • Oversee accurate records, statistics, and administrative tasks as required.
