Discover a challenging and rewarding role as a Data Platform Engineer at the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC), Ireland's national centre for High-Performance Computing (HPC) and data platforms.

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the ICHEC team, developing data platform services that enable a diverse set of data and compute workflows and applications. These platforms will provide a coherent and standardised set of tools and services for federating distributed data management systems across Ireland and Europe.

You will collaborate with national and international research/industry partners on the deployment and testing of emerging hardware and software platforms. Your expertise in designing, building and deploying backend web applications and services will be essential in achieving this goal.

This position requires experience in software systems design and architecture, including API development and collecting and acting on stakeholder requirements. Familiarity with DevOps development practices, such as build automation, automated testing, CI/CD, containers and container orchestration is also necessary.

A strong understanding of data management, storage, database technologies, and Linux environments is required. You will work closely with members of the ICHEC Infrastructure Group in building, securing and operating new platforms to a high service level.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects, including:

  • Developing data platform services for federating distributed data management systems
  • Collaborating with national and international research/industry partners on the deployment and testing of emerging hardware and software platforms
  • Working in conjunction with the ICHEC Infrastructure Group to build, secure and operate new platforms

Eligibility Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you must have a Masters with 4 years' relevant professional experience after primary degree or a PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline. A strong track record of designing, building and deploying backend web applications and services is essential.
