Job Opportunity: Fluvial Scientist

The EPA-funded RiverWood Project seeks a skilled Fluvial Scientist to join our Research and Development team. The project's primary goal is to evaluate the functional relationships between riparian zones and large wood in rivers, quantify its role in providing complex habitat and other services, and assess the efficacy of large wood augmentation as a protect and restore tool for key species, habitats, and their ecosystem services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field assessments and undertake analyses to report on experimental approaches in river restoration across a range of scales.
  • Manage field data collection and document project development.
  • Collaborate with an inter-disciplinary team focusing on process-based river restoration.
  • Undertake research to document physical habitat and ecological changes that have occurred in response to restoration measures implemented in target rivers.
Requirements:
  • A relevant Diploma or Degree in ecology, physical geography, or hydrology (NFQ Level 7).
  • Full driving license valid in the state.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, with particular emphasis on motivation and achieving objectives.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot errors and question information received.
Working Conditions:

The position requires flexibility regarding working hours and involves physical exertion, including walking over rough terrain, lifting equipment, and wading in streams/rivers. Fieldwork will be conducted in all weather conditions.
