Job Description

The Assistant Disability Officer plays a crucial role in providing expert advice and support to learners with disabilities, ensuring they can maximize their learning outcomes and fully participate in their studies.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of students with diverse disabilities, including specific learning difficulties, physical and sensory disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and multiple disabilities.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify student support requirements and provide tailored guidance to address barriers to learning.
  • Interpret professional reports to determine appropriate supports and reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Foster strong relationships with colleagues, students, and external stakeholders to promote inclusivity and advocacy.
  • Develop and deliver training workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of staff working with students with disabilities.

Essential Criteria:

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with third-level students or in an educational setting is essential.
  • Significant experience working with diverse disabilities and awareness of disability issues within a legislative framework is necessary.
  • High-level interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills are expected.
  • Strong IT skills and an interest in applying technology to deliver services are desirable.
