Job Title: National Bioinformatics Director
About the RoleThe National Genetics and Genomics Office (NGGO) is responsible for implementing a comprehensive strategy to accelerate genetic and genomic medicine in Ireland. A five-year plan focuses on coordinating national genetics and genomics, ensuring patient and public involvement and partnerships, building the genetics and genomics workforce for the future, enhancing clinical services, and strengthening infrastructure.
The role of the National Bioinformatics Director involves providing leadership and expertise in bioinformatics, working with key stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the strategy. The director will be part of the HSE's National Genetics and Genomics Office leadership team.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and direction in the field of bioinformatics, working closely with stakeholders to achieve the goals of the NGGO.
- Team Management: Lead and manage a team of bioinformatics professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate and lead projects related to bioinformatics, including the development of computational tools and methods.
- Collaboration: Foster collaboration and partnerships with other organizations and institutions to advance the field of bioinformatics.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or Genomics, as well as at least 7 years of post-qualification full-time experience in laboratory/clinical bioinformatics. You will also need to have at least 5 years of senior management experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory or clinical bioinformatics.
Additionally, you will need to have strategic leadership experience in genetic and genomic bioinformatics services, including national projects, and a proven ability to manage significant change programs within complex organizations.
