About This Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Nursing Leader to join our multidisciplinary team in North Cork. The successful candidate will work closely with healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care and services to adults with complex support needs.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that Incident Care Plans (ICPs) are up-to-date and services are delivered to the highest quality and safety standards.
  • To familiarise yourself with local safety statements, risk assessments, and standard operating procedures.
  • To adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.
  • To use company IT systems as instructed and maintain data privacy in line with GDPR.
  • To act responsibly and cooperate with regulators in the best interests of the service and the people who use them.
  • To maintain high infection control standards in line with company policy and national best practice guidance.
  • To work according to the NMBI Code of Professional Conduct; assess care needs; develop, implement, and evaluate care programmes; support the nursing team; develop, implement, and evaluate individual care plans with patients, carers, and other professionals as appropriate.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • To provide nursing assessments of patients admitted to the service.
  • To participate in ward rounds and multi-professional meetings; support the nursing team in this role.
  • To ensure high standards of nursing in clinical procedures, including custody, storage, and administration of medicines.
  • To maintain high standards of nursing care during procedures through supervision and instruction.
  • To ensure patients' rights are maintained under the Mental Health Act.
  • To assist the Director of Nursing to ensure staff are aware of individual care plans and objectives, and activities to be undertaken.
  • To complete supervision and appraisals of junior staff; take charge in the Director of Nursing's absence.
  • To exercise leadership within the service to ensure sound organisation, communication, and relationships within the nursing team and MDT.
  • To inform the Director of Nursing of professional issues as necessary, in line with NMBI codes of conduct; support investigations as required.
  • To assist in planning and preparation for MHC visits and inspections.
  • To lead collaboration with outside agencies to ensure effective communication across services.

Requirements:

  • A thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Health Act 2007, Mental Health Act 2001, and Mental Health Amendment Act 2018; Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and related standards, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • A minimum of 5+ years post-qualification psychiatric nursing experience.
  • A minimum of 3+ years in a management position within psychiatric nursing.
  • To be registered on, or eligible to be on, the Psychiatric Division of the NMBI.
  • A post-registration qualification in healthcare management (QQI Level 8 or higher) or working towards/appropriate equivalent; or a contractual plan to acquire within 3 years from appointment.
  • An ability to empathise with and understand the needs of others; strong organisational, verbal and written communication and IT skills; willingness to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team; reliability and flexible approach.
