Project Health and Safety Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to fill the role of Project Health and Safety Expert. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing health and safety on complex projects.

  • The Project Health and Safety Expert will be responsible for supervising, supporting, and guiding all project safety advisors under their control.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure the implementation of company health and safety policy and procedures on the project.
  • Conduct regular site health and safety inspections and report findings to relevant personnel.
  • Ensure that the project team has been provided with the relevant health and safety documentation.
  • Verify that health and safety project plans meet company standards.
  • Ensure that health and safety issues are discussed at project review meetings.
  • Maintain clear records to comply with company internal and external audit standards.
  • Assist the site management team and sub-contractor owners with risk assessments and sub-contractor evaluations and documentation review when requested.
  • Deliver health and safety training where appropriate and as agreed with the Project Manager.
  • Suggest, communicate, and promote initiatives for incident prevention and forward to the Project Manager / HSE & Sustainability Manager for consideration.
  • Support the Project Manager in incident investigation.
  • Monitor the adequacy and timely close out of incident reporting and health and safety inspections.
  • Liaising with the relevant legal authorities (i.e. H.S.A, EPA etc.).
  • Identify ideas for health and safety improvement and submit to the project manager and the HSE & Sustainability manager for consideration.
  • Attend relevant health and safety meetings as required.
  • Assist managers with safety and environmental submissions, risk assessments, and vendor evaluations when requested.
  • Communicate, demonstrate, and promote BAM HSE ethos, values, and concepts.
Requirements
  • Level 8 qualification in health and safety.
  • 8 years successful postgraduate experience in project health and safety management.
  • Successful experience as a chartered Project Safety Advisor.
  • Thorough knowledge of OHSAS 45001.
  • Chartered membership of IOSH.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation.
  • Capable of leading major accident investigations internally.
