Job Description

As a Clinical Nurse Manager II, you will have a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The CNM II coordinates and leads in the implementation and provision of quality care.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence-based, care planning approach
  • Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership
  • Be responsible for the coordination, assessment, planning, delivery, and review of service user care by all staff in designated areas
  • Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
  • Participate in teams/meetings/committees as appropriate, communicating and working in cooperation with other team members
  • Facilitate coordination, cooperation, and liaison across healthcare teams
  • Collaborate with service users, family, carers, and other staff in treatment/care
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses
  • Ensure care delivered by the team is based on evidence-based practice and hospital policy
  • Regularly evaluate and monitor patient care using hospital quality systems
  • Develop and promote good relationships with patients, families, and carers, making the ward welcoming
  • Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting teamwork and excellent patient care
  • Evaluate and develop the department's philosophy, objectives, and goals
  • Ensure staff are familiar with equipment use and maintenance
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information
Managerial Responsibilities

The CNM II provides supervision, coordination, and deployment of nursing and support staff to ensure optimum care in the designated area.

  • Manage communication at ward and departmental levels and facilitate team building
  • Provide staff leadership and motivation to support good working relations and performance
  • Manage resources efficiently and lead practice development within the clinical area
  • Lead on change and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures
  • Monitor and lead proactive improvement; contribute to policies at area and hospital levels
  • Participate in Nursing Management structure and deputise for senior management when required
  • Maintain clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements
  • Participate in an on-call rota
Staff Development and Education

The CNM II ensures care is based on assessment of individual needs and promotes this within the ward team.

  • Ensure staff development and induction programs are in place
  • Ensure each staff member has a personal development plan for current and future roles
  • Foster a reflective practice environment
Required Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Registration in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI
  • Completion of a Management Course or commitment to undertake same
  • Minimum 5 years qualified experience in a Medical environment
  • Previous management experience essential
  • Experience in change management
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Awareness of HR policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • Active role in continuous improvement using lean tools
  • Excellent communication skills with medical staff, multidisciplinary teams, patients, and relatives
  • Implement change in line with new developments in nursing
  • Work as an effective multidisciplinary team member
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills
