The Colas Group operates internationally in all aspects of transport infrastructure. As part of the global organisation, Colas Ireland is primarily involved in the distribution and manufacturing of bitumen products, emulsions, and emulsifiers, as well as providing specialist road maintenance services on national, regional, and local road networks.


Project Engineer Role Overview

This role will be responsible for the planning, supervision, and delivery of Works Orders consisting of routine and non-routine maintenance on 343 structures on the National Road and Motorway Network in various counties. The engineer will ensure compliance with contract specifications and TII's requirements.


Main Responsibilities
  • Site Setting Out and Supervision: Oversee site activities and ensure that works are carried out in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Planning and Co-ordination: Plan and coordinate gangs and subcontractors to achieve project objectives.
  • Project Proposal Development: Develop and quantify project proposals for internal and client review.
  • Budget Costing: Compile budget costing for the commercial team.
  • Relationship Management: Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Local Authority contacts, TII Representatives, emergency services, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Liaison with TII Representatives: Liaise with TII Representatives regarding works and surveys.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Produce, document, and maintain all relevant documentation, including RFIs, TQs, CVIs, Variation Orders, etc.
  • Compliance and Quality: Ensure successful delivery of works compliant with contract standards, ensuring health, safety, and environmental aspects are maintained at the highest standards.
  • Employee and Subcontractor Compliance: Ensure all employees and subcontractors under their control comply with company and legislative HSE standards.
  • Traffic Management: Ensure traffic management is implemented in accordance with Colas JV and national standards.
  • Subcontractor Performance Monitoring: Monitor, control, and report subcontractor work performance and quality.
  • Production Records: Maintain daily production records and diary for all works.
  • Field Map Logs and Data: Maintain field map logs and data captured from site.
  • Safety File Compilation: Compile information for the Safety File for all specified work orders.
  • Reporting: Compile and deliver reports as required in accordance with the Contract.

Profile Requirements
  • Civil/Construction Degree: Hold a civil or construction-related degree.
  • Industry Recognised Safety Training: Possess industry recognised safety training to the relevant standard.
  • Project Cost Management: Demonstrate experience in project cost management.
  • Labor, Plant, and Material Resource Management: Effectively plan and manage labour, plant, and material resources for a range of civil works.
  • Time Management and Prioritisation: Showcase strong time management and prioritisation skills for self and team.
  • Interpersonal, Communication, and Reporting Skills: Display excellent interpersonal, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to the range of works required.
