Design Manager Role Overview

This is a unique opportunity to join our organization as a Design Manager. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing design coordination and information, including technical submittals involved in the project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with consultants and architects to manage design coordination and information, including technical submittals involved in the project.
  • Communicate all developed information to the construction team, a key function of the Design Manager.
  • Establish relationships with the design team.
  • Manage the technical submittal process, including developing the submittal schedule in line with the programme and procurement schedule.
  • Work with QSs to get potential equal and approved products over the line.
  • Track submittals and report when design teams have strayed outside of their approved timeframe.
  • Meet subcontractors and minute meetings regarding dates for submittals, shop drawings, manufacturing durations, on-site dates, and installation approval processes, including BCAR paperwork and O&M information development.
  • Manage the RFI register and monitor response times; RFIs are developed as the subcontract coordinated designs are developed through the shop drawing stage.
  • Ensure the PM keeps the information flow between the design team and subcontractor to move the shop drawing process forward.
  • Monitor the method statement schedule to ensure client and DT comments are received in the agreed timeframe.
  • Minute production meetings with subcontractors through the course of the project.
  • During the submittal process, ensure submittals achieve status A and file information for BCAR / O&M documentation.
  • Ensure information is available for completion of the project in line with the construction programme and assist with QC management planning.
  • Ensure the Inspection Notification Framework for BCAR inspections is updated and prior notifications of inspections are included in the Two-week look ahead issued to the design team weekly.
