Ecological Leadership Role

Our organization is seeking a senior ecologist to take on a leading position in our ecological consultancy team. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex projects and shape the future of ecology in Ireland.

We are looking for an experienced ecologist who can mentor emerging talent, support strategic growth, and develop nature-based solutions, restoration, and climate-resilient ecological planning. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of Irish and EU environmental legislation and planning frameworks.


The successful candidate will lead the delivery of assessments (EcIA, NIS, AA Screening, EIAR), oversee surveys and project direction, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams. They will be responsible for managing multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholder relationships, while ensuring high-quality work and client satisfaction.


To succeed in this role, you will need:


  • At least 6 years' experience in ecological consultancy or a related field
  • Strong track record of leading complex, multi-sector ecological projects
  • Deep understanding of Irish and EU environmental legislation and planning frameworks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strategic mindset
  • Confidence managing multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholder relationships
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and supporting team development

Nice to have:


  • Expertise in a specialist discipline (e.g. bats, ornithology, wetlands, mammals)
  • Experience with nature-based solutions, habitat restoration or climate-aligned planning
  • Previous work with regulators, public agencies or infrastructure developers
  • Experience as expert witness or participation in planning/oral hearings
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification
