Ecological Leadership Opportunity

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Ecologist to lead our ecological consultancy team in Galway.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will lead and manage ecological surveys, including habitat assessments, protected species surveys, and impact assessments. They will provide expert ecological advice to clients, stakeholders, and project teams. The role also involves preparing high-quality ecological reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Appropriate Assessments (AA), and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR). Additionally, they will develop and implement ecological mitigation strategies and biodiversity enhancement plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead ecological surveys, including habitat assessments, protected species surveys, and impact assessments.
  • Provide expert ecological advice to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Prepare high-quality ecological reports, including EcIA, AA, and EIAR.
  • Develop and implement ecological mitigation strategies and biodiversity enhancement plans.
  • Manage and mentor junior ecologists, supporting their development and technical expertise.
  • Liaise with statutory bodies, regulatory authorities, and local communities regarding ecological and biodiversity matters.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology, Botany, or a related discipline.
  • A postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in ecological consultancy, conservation, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish and EU environmental legislation and planning policies.
  • Experience in leading habitat and protected species surveys, including bats, birds, otters, and amphibians.
  • Proficiency in preparing EcIA, AA, and EIAR reports.
  • Membership of CIEEM (or eligibility for membership) is desirable.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping and data analysis is an advantage.
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
