Medical Care Professional

The Itinerant Licensed Practical Nurse is a key figure in providing high-quality medical care to students and staff. With a focus on assessment and basic medical attention, this individual will work closely with the supervising RN to develop and implement healthcare plans that cater to the unique needs of each student.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the supervising RN to identify students requiring routine or special health care services, and follow established protocols for delivering care.
  • Gather relevant data to create personalized healthcare plans, working closely with the supervising RN, healthcare prescribers, and parents as needed.
  • Maintain open communication channels with the supervising RN to ensure accurate and up-to-date healthcare plans.
  • Notify the System Head RN of expected or unexpected absences, adhering to established procedures.
  • Administer medications according to the Medication Curriculum developed by the Alabama State Department of Education and the Alabama Board of Nursing.
  • Provide specialized nursing care as directed by prescribers for students requiring additional support.
Requirements
  • Current Alabama License as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Clinical experience working with school-age children in hospitals, community health settings, or pediatric clinics is highly desirable.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Effective communication skills to interact professionally with the supervising RN, administration, parents, faculty, and students.
  • CPR certification is mandatory (can be obtained after employment).
