About the Role

This is a 20-hour, six-month fixed-term contract position for a Medical Device Cleaning Specialist in our Central Decontamination Unit. The post holder will be responsible for cleaning and disinfecting medical devices using mechanical and manual methods.



Responsibilities:
  • Decontaminate used medical devices using mechanical methods
  • Inspect and function test medical devices, reporting any discrepancies to the CSSD Manager
  • Assemble, inspect, and pack instrument sets and equipment for sterilization
  • Loading and unloading autoclaves, sterilizing packs, and sets of instruments
  • Prepare and examine packs prior to storage for tears and dampness
  • Distribute and store all sterilized equipment and instruments in designated areas
  • Observe and check parameters and malfunctions of autoclaves, washers/disinfectors
  • Daily/Weekly testing of autoclaves, washer/disinfectors, heat sealers, and ultrasonics
  • Record relevant data in logbooks with full clear signature of operative/technician
  • Maintenance of records in line with Department policy and EU legislation
  • Archive documents according to national and European legislation
  • Stocking shelves with sterile supplies and assisting with stock control
  • Storage and handling of raw material components
  • Ensure adherence to standard precautions, infection prevention control policies, and Health and Safety procedures
  • Comply with Health and Safety standards, report incidents/near misses to the CSSD Manager
  • Participate in manual and/or computerized traceability of reusable medical devices as part of a quality system
  • Adhere to National Hygiene Standards, complete monthly Hygiene Audits
  • Maintain a clean and tidy environment at all times, report inadequacies
  • Facilitate effective communication with the multidisciplinary team as necessary


Requirements

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, proven written and verbal communication abilities, and the ability to work on own initiative prioritizing multiple tasks simultaneously. They must also have the physical ability to undertake the demands of the role.
