Job Opportunity for Senior Ecologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ecologist to join our team and contribute to various projects across different sectors. As a key member of our ecology team, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

You will be responsible for supporting our existing partnerships with water utilities, identifying new opportunities, and aiding our lead ecologist in expanding our client base. You will manage complex ecological issues within project contexts, including conducting surveys and assessments, designing mitigation measures, and obtaining protected species licenses.

As a senior ecologist, you will also mentor junior staff members, helping them develop their ecological skills and knowledge. With autonomy to work on projects, you will have the opportunity to grow professionally and participate in training and networking events.

Requirements:

  • A minimum BSc degree in ecology or a related environmental discipline
  • Experience working in a consultancy or similar environment
  • Strong understanding of UK and EU wildlife legislation and policy
  • Skills in conducting detailed assessments, such as PEAs, ECIAs, and ecological chapters
  • Familiarity with UKHab classification and the Defra Metric
  • Protected species survey license for at least one species (e.g., great crested newt, bats)
  • Experience with protected species licensing
  • Project management, budgeting, and client relationship experience
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
