Environmental Specialist

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Ecologist to play a key role in our team.
The successful candidate will work closely with our Principal Ecologist, contributing to the growth and development of a talented group of professionals who share our vision for innovative environmental solutions.
As a Senior Ecologist, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including planning, engineering, and design, supported by a dedicated Ecology Team.
You will drive forward existing partnerships with water utilities, pursue new opportunities, and aid our lead ecologist in expanding our client base.
Manage complex ecological issues within project contexts, conducting surveys and assessments, designing mitigation and enhancement measures, and securing protected species licenses.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, helping them develop their ecological skills and knowledge.
Work independently, with opportunities for professional growth, training, and networking events.
- Hold a BSc degree in ecology or a related environmental discipline.
- Experience working in consultancy environments.
- Deep understanding of UK and EU wildlife legislation and policy.
- Skills in conducting detailed assessments, contributing to Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs), and familiarity with UKHab classification and Defra Metric.
- Protected species survey license for at least one species.
- Experience in managing projects, budgets, and client relationships.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
A full UK driving license and willingness to travel are required.
Membership of CIEEM, IEMA, or similar is desirable. Proven experience in line management is also preferred.
