Role Summary

The Clinical Nurse Specialist in Breast Care delivers high-quality care to patients with breast cancer and benign breast disease. The specialist assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients.

For success in this challenging yet rewarding role, excellent communication and time management skills are essential. Experience working within a multidisciplinary team is also valuable. The specialist will be expected to work autonomously, manage their own caseload, and prioritize tasks effectively.

In addition to clinical expertise, the post holder provides education and support to patients and their families, participates in teaching programs, and contributes to service development and improvement.

This is a role that requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist knowledge, expertise, and care to breast care patients
  • Offer advice and support recognizing the psychosocial impact of a breast diagnosis
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate all aspects of patient care
  • Monitor patients on an ongoing basis, adjusting nursing care practice as needed
  • Develop and participate in follow-up and results clinics
  • Provide pre and post-operative counseling, fitting of prostheses when required
  • Liaise closely with primary health care teams and other professionals involved in patient care

Requirements:

  • NMBI registration
  • Minimum 5 years post-registration experience
  • 3 years in acute healthcare setting
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage own caseload
  • Good IT and computer skills
