Role overview

The CRU has published its decision on grid-related policy for offshore wind generation projects under Phase 2 of Ireland's offshore wind development programme. This decision builds on existing regulatory policy, wider Government policy for offshore wind, and terms for Ireland's first Phase 2 Offshore Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (ORESS) auction.

  • Careful balancing of statutory duties under the Electricity Regulation Act 1999.
  • Support for EirGrid's ability to develop the offshore grid in line with Government objectives.

Outcomes and implications

This decision aims to reduce uncertainty in bids by developers in a Phase 2 ORESS auction, supporting a more competitive auction process and minimising costs to be recovered by Irish consumers through the Public Service Obligation (PSO) levy.

Job requirements

The successful candidate will have the ability to carefully balance customer interests and competition with support for EirGrid's offshore grid development. The individual must also have a good understanding of the Electricity Regulation Act 1999 and be able to provide support for EirGrid's ability to develop the offshore grid in line with Government objectives.
