
Lead Road Construction Specialist

The Senior Road Design Specialist will serve as the key on-site representative of the design team, fostering collaboration with contractors, local authorities, and project stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of roadworks.
This role entails site supervision, design compliance monitoring, quality control, and stakeholder engagement throughout the construction phase. Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the lead on-site representative for the design team, ensuring that works are carried out in accordance with the approved design, specifications, and relevant regulations.
- Overseeing the construction and installation of roads, bridges, drainage, and associated infrastructure.
- Reviewing contractor method statements, risk assessments, and material submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Maintaining quality control and safety on-site, adhering to Irish health & safety regulations (incl. Health & Safety Authority guidelines).
- Cultivating relationships with contractors, local authorities, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), and other key stakeholders to facilitate smooth project delivery.
- Conducting regular site inspections and audits, documenting progress, issues, and recommendations.
- Providing technical guidance on design modifications and liaising with the design office to address on-site challenges.
- Assisting in dispute resolution, variation assessments, and claims management.
- Precipitating detailed progress reports and participating in project meetings to keep stakeholders informed.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with Engineers Ireland (or working towards it).
- 10+ years of experience in road and highway construction, with prior experience as a DSR or Senior Site Engineer.
- Strong knowledge of TII standards, Irish building regulations, and road design principles.
- Experience in site supervision, quality control, and contractor management.
- Familiarity with pavement design, drainage, road safety audits, and traffic management plans.
- Proficiency in relevant software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve technical challenges on-site.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
