Job Title: Project Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly experienced project health and safety specialist to join our civils team in Waterford. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising, supporting, and guiding project safety advisors, promoting safe working practices, and managing the implementation of company health, safety, and environmental policies.

  • Supervise and support project safety advisors under your control.
  • Promote safe working practices and manage company HSE policy implementation.
  • Carry out regular site inspections and report findings.
  • Ensure all project teams have access to relevant HSE documentation.
  • Develop and implement HSE project plans that meet company standards.
  • Discuss and report HSE issues at project review meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records to comply with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with site management and sub-contractor owners on risk assessments and evaluations.
  • Provide HSE training as required by the project manager.
  • Suggest initiatives for incident prevention and forward them to the project manager or HSE manager for consideration.
  • Support incident investigation processes.
  • Monitor incident reporting and HSE inspection timeliness.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities (e.g., HSA, EPA).
  • Identify opportunities for HSE improvement and submit ideas to the project manager and HSE manager.
  • Attend relevant HSE meetings.
  • Support safety and environmental submissions, risk assessments, and vendor evaluations when requested.
  • Promote HSE values, ethos, and concepts throughout the organization.

Requirements:

This role requires a strong educational background and significant postgraduate experience in project HSE management. Relevant qualifications include a level 8 degree in health and safety. Additionally, chartered membership of IOSH and thorough knowledge of OHSAS 45001 are essential.

The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, allowing them to interact effectively at all levels within the organization. A proven ability to lead major accident investigations is also necessary for this position.
