Leading Health and Safety Specialist

The Senior Health Officer is a pivotal position responsible for spearheading and delivering all health and safety activities within the organization. This role plays a critical part in driving the development of a positive health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, policies, and procedures.

This position will focus on building and maintaining positive relationships with various departments to foster a collaborative environment that prioritizes safety. The successful candidate will represent the company during external audits and inspections, liaising with regulatory bodies as required.

Key responsibilities include coordinating and maintaining Organisational Management Systems (ISO 45001) to ensure effective health and safety management. The ideal candidate will plan, manage, and complete health and safety audits and inspections in accordance with the audit plan.

Daily operations meetings will be attended to report on safety and status of safety actions/audits. A thorough approach to daily safety walks with supervisors and operatives based on a rota is also expected.

Weekly and monthly reports on safety performance will be produced to monitor progress and drive improvement. Additionally, support will be provided for PPE tendering processes, including specification review.

Monitor and measure HSE objectives and targets in-line with internal metrics, championing the improvement of health and safety culture through training and awareness campaigns. Drive the management of risk assessment programs to ensure completion of risk assessments, method statements, and COSHH assessments.

Participate in the company's internal auditing program to ensure compliance with ISO45001:2018. Develop, maintain, and drive safety observation and near miss reporting processes.

Ensure corrective actions from internal audits are raised, actioned, and closed out as per the corrective actions process. Document and record existing and incoming legislation and regulations on health and safety.

Investigate, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions for significant incidents, reportable accidents, and dangerous occurrences. Maintain and provide access to health and safety performance data.

Manage an annual safety communication plan and organize regular health and safety meetings at least once per month. Collaborate with operational teams to ensure new employee, visitor, and contractor safety inductions are completed.

Work closely with teams to embed health and safety policies, systems, and procedures. Provide support for capital projects team reviews of subcontractor health and safety.

Monitor contractor safety performance and offer feedback to key stakeholders. Support planning, execution, and review of annual shutdowns, acting on behalf of the company in the PSCS role.

Occasional travel may be required to attend courses or conferences related to health and safety.

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health and welfare or other recognized safety qualification.">
• At least 5 years of experience in Occupational Safety & Health and welfare.">
• Thorough knowledge of current environmental, health, and safety legislation.">
• Experience dealing with regulatory bodies.">
• Internal auditing experience beneficial.">
• Experience with ISO 45001 Standards.">
