Job Title: Special Care Worker

Care workers play a vital role in supporting vulnerable young people in special care units. This is a challenging yet rewarding job that requires a strong commitment to the well-being and safety of young people.

This role involves working with children aged 11-17, providing short-term interventions that prioritize safe care in a secure, therapeutic environment. As a care worker, you will participate in developing and implementing Care and Placement Plans while promoting the rights of each young person and their physical, emotional, social, and educational welfare.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing Care and Placement Plans that meet the individual needs of each young person
  • Promoting the rights of each young person within the centre
  • Providing support to young people to achieve their goals and promote their physical, emotional, social, and educational welfare

You will work closely with other professionals to provide a comprehensive service to young people in need. To be successful, you must have a strong commitment to the well-being and safety of young people and be able to work effectively as part of a team.

Required Qualifications:

Education

Minimum QQI Level 7 in Social Care or a related qualification

Alternatively, you can hold one of the following qualifications with eligibility to register with CORU (with at least 2 years of relevant experience in the previous 5 years):

  • Youth and Community Work qualification
  • BA (Hons) Youth and Community Development
  • BA (Hons) Counselling and Addiction Studies
  • Disability Diploma (Primary Care)
  • Degree in Social Science (minimum Level 7)
  • Social Care Qualification (Level 6)
