
Safety and Compliance Specialist

Job Overview:
We are seeking a Safety and Compliance Specialist to lead the development of a proactive health and safety culture across our site. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for staying informed of new legislation and industry developments, maintaining a working knowledge of current practices, and conducting regular internal audits to ensure policies and procedures are implemented effectively.
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and industry developments, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Develop and implement effective strategies to promote a proactive health and safety culture across the site, including the identification and mitigation of potential hazards.
- Conduct regular internal audits to assess the effectiveness of existing policies and procedures, documenting and reporting findings to management.
- CARRY OUT AND UPDATE RISK ASSESSMENTS, IMPLEMENT PREVENTATIVE MEASURES, AND MONITOR COMPLIANCE WITH HEALTH AND SAFETY LEGISLATION.
- Collaborate with line managers and supervisors to develop safe systems of work, maintain risk trackers, and lead safety briefings, toolbox talks, and huddles as required.
- Investigate, record, and follow up on incidents, accidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences, providing recommendations for improvement.
- Oversee and monitor third-party activities to ensure safe working practices, maintaining the sites Emergency Plan & Procedures and ensuring key responders are trained and prepared.
Requirements:
- At least 3 years relevant experience in a similar role, preferably within the food production industry.
- A third-level qualification in a related field such as Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental Management.
- Strong relationship-building skills, drive, confidence, and resilience to see projects through to completion.
- Excellent problem-solving ability, innovative thinking, high levels of organisation, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, keeping up to date with health and safety legislation and industry developments.
- Ability to manage sensitive information with absolute confidentiality and integrity, demonstrating outstanding communication skills and a professional manner.
